I have so many amazing memories from my many years of dancing. I think I am going to make this a series of posts because there are so many good ones. In each post I will feature 2-3 of my favorite dance moments.
#1: Getting my first 1st place in Novice
In 2015 I got my first 1st place at the Michigan feis. I had been in novice for quite a few years by that point. I was honestly getting pretty tired of going to competitions and not seeing the results of the work I was putting in. I had pretty much decided that if I hadn’t gotten a first by the end of that year I was going to cut way back on competitions and probably would have only done one or two a year.
I went to go check my results and honestly I wasn’t expecting much. I had danced my hornpipe and thought it went really well, but I had danced with someone who was very good and was a very strong hard shoe dancer as well. I got over to the results wall and I probably could have shot through the roof of the venue. I had gotten a 1st in my hornpipe. What made it even better was that my teacher was there too.
#2: Feis weekend trip
In January of last year my mom and I took a road trip down to Wisconsin with one of my closest dance friends and her mom. It was for the Dairyland Feis and Wisconsin Winterfeis. We both did pretty well that weekend and it was fun to just e together for an entire weekend. Also, we went to Cheesecake factory for dinner one of the nights we were there and that was really fun.
#3: My first feis
I went to my first feis when I was 10. It was my first year of dance, so I was a beginner 1. When the concept of a feis was brought up for the first time, I was not about it. I did not want to go and be compared to other dancers. I didn’t want to dance in front of a judge. In my 10 year old brain I was like “Who in their right mind would do this for fun?” Ohhh, little did I know…
Anyhoo… So I got there and I still wasn’t quite so sure how I felt about it. It was a bit overwhelming to see all those girls walking around in their wigs and dresses. There were people dancing all over and it was very overwhelming. I was starting to warm up to it when I was getting ready and my friend and her family started explaining it to me. Then I got up for my first dance and everything changed. Then I got my medals and I was hooked.
I am so glad my parents made me go to my first feis. Because, yes, I am now one of those crazy people who do it for fun.
